AMMAN — Results from the 2015 census revealed that citizens under the age of 15 account for 34 per cent of the total population of Jordan, a Department of Statistics (DoS) statement said on Tuesday.

The statement, which coincides with World Population Day, said that the working-age group, which includes citizens between the ages of 15 and 64, constitutes 62 per cent of the Jordanian population. Meanwhile, the elderly (over 65 years) make up 4 per cent, according to the statement.

The rate of age dependency ratio reached 61 per cent in 2017, and the average Jordanian family size shrunk by 11 per cent since the last census in 2004 until 2015’s census, decreasing from 5.4 persons to 4.82.
