AMMAN — The volume of Jordanian exports to Ukraine rose by 26 per cent in the first five months of this year compared to the same period last year, Ukrainian Ambassador to Jordan Sergiy Pasko said.

During his meeting with a number of journalists quoted by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Tuesday, Pasko said that economic cooperation, which was affected during the recent period by a number of events in the region, especially in Syria, is now witnessing "remarkable growth and development".

He noted that the Ukrainian exports to Jordan increased by 19 per cent during the first five months of 2018, with a volume of trade reaching $200 million this year.

Pasko stressed the importance of the historic visit of His Majesty King Abdullah to Ukraine, saying that it paved the way for further cooperation between the two countries.

The ambassador pointed out that the volume of Jordanian investments in Ukraine stands at $3.5 million, and stressed the importance of opening a Jordanian embassy in Kiev due to the distinguished relations between the two countries, as well as the presence of a Jordanian community in Ukraine.

He underlined the crucial humanitarian role played by the Kingdom through receiving hundreds of thousands of refugees and providing them with shelter and services, expressing hope that stability will return to Syria soon and that the refugees will return to their country.

On the US decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem, Pasko said that Ukraine did not attend the opening ceremony in Jerusalem and voted against the decision to transfer the embassy at the  UN Security Council.
