AMMAN — Tawjihi (General Secondary Education Certificate Examination) exams will be held according to the scheduled date already announced unless health and preventive measures require otherwise, Education Minister Tayseer Nuaimi said on Tuesday.

During a remote dialogue session organised by the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, Nuaimi said that distance education is “not a new approach”, yet its pace, requirements, forms and challenges have accelerated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The ministry has conducted several studies and surveys on a representative sample of 36,000 students, 32,000 parents and 28,000 teachers, which showed that 78 per cent of students are attending their distance education classes, the minister said.

Head of the University of Jordan’s Strategic Studies Centre Zeid Ayadat said that the “real challenge” in distance education is guaranteeing the delivery of educational services to the largest possible number of students.
