AMMAN — The Ministry of Health called on emergency departments in public and private hospitals to deal with urgent and critical medical conditions and conduct necessary medical procedures and examinations without delay, Health Ministry Spokesman Hatem Al Azrai said on Saturday.

Azrai made his remarks in response to complaints made about delays in receiving medical treatment at hospitals, as well as bureaucracy in admitting patients at public hospitals’.

He added that the ministry’s plans and programmes are designed to deal with the large numbers of emergency patients at public hospitals, especially at Al Bashir Hospital and Prince Hamzah Hospital.

Azrai pointed out that the emergency departments in both public and private hospitals are obliged to provide urgent healthcare for cases that cannot be delayed, stressing that hospitals will be subject to legal liability in cases of negligence or medical malpractice, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
