AMMAN — Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) Nasser Shraideh on Sunday announced that the demolition of the old Aqaba grain silos is complete.
In a press conference, Shraideh said that the Turkish company, contracted to demolish the silos, resorted to an alternative plan after a technical failure prevented the demolition last Wednesday.
The demolition was carried out in cooperation with the Royal Engineering Corps, the Arab Construction and Contracting Company and a number of government agencies, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Shraideh also affirmed that the ASEZA will hand over the cleared area of the old port to the Eagle Hills Company to build a $6-billion tourism project. Aqaba Governor Saleh Nusseirat voiced his appreciation for the contributions of the government’s agencies.
Meanwhile, representative of Turkish company Mohammed Gorol said that the Royal Engineering Corps’ recommended using more explosives, which worked.
