The many problems in Syria

The Middle East is experiencing considerable instability, to say the least, yet Jordan has remained intact throughout these extremely difficult times.

Bordering Jordan on the north is Syria, with its many sides vying for power. The result has been over 1 million refugees streaming into Jordan to escape the war.

The Syrian refugees, basically coming in with the clothes on their backs only, live in tents inside of Jordan in a desert region adjacent to Syria. 

It takes a genius to plan the logistics for so many refugees coming into a small country in a short period of time. 

Food, medical supplies, clothing, water, sanitary facilities, among others, are necessities, which must be provided for them. 

Diseases and illnesses can be prevalent in the presence of so many refugees in a limited area.

It is an unpleasant situation to see refugees in a hopeless environment depending upon the United Nations for sustenance.

How long will Syrian refugees be in Jordan?

This will depend on several factors, including the US and Russia reaching an agreement on what to do with Syria’s President Bashar Assad.

The US favours the rebels who are opposed to Assad, whereas Russia backs him in office. 

If Assad would abandon, which nation would take him in?

Then, there are the many problems related to any attempt at uniting the opposing sides in the conflict and developing some kind of agreement upon the necessary government, to prevent the anarchy seen in several Middle Eastern countries.

The very first step should be for the US and Russia to agree upon who should govern Syria, with the Syrian people also agreeing. 

Even determining how this should be done is a problem to be solved.

Work, time and much effort will be involved in working out the many problems plaguing Syria.
