AMMAN — Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah met with a Qatari delegation on Thursday to discuss ways to expand economic cooperation between Jordan and Qatar.
The discussions also focused on opportunities in industry, food security, infrastructure, energy, services and reconstruction efforts in Syria, according to a ministry statement.
The meeting comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen economic ties between the two countries, following the outcomes of talks between His Majesty King Abdullah and Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani during the latter’s recent visit to Amman.
During the meeting, Qudah emphasised the government’s plans to enhance economic partnerships with Qatar in the coming period, capitalise on investment opportunities, and promote integration across key industrial sectors; either through bilateral initiatives or within the framework of a wider industrial partnership linking Jordan, Qatar and other countries.
He also underlined the importance of setting up a dedicated technical team from both countries to conduct ongoing, in-depth dialogue on potential areas of cooperation, map out emerging opportunities and actively engage the Jordanian and Qatari private sectors in shaping joint initiatives.
Qudah said "Jordan offers a range of strategic and promising investment opportunities, particularly in industry including food and textiles, as well as in infrastructure, energy and other sectors."
"The Kingdom also serves as a gateway to regional markets, a hub for contributing to Syria’s reconstruction, and is distinguished by its advanced services sector across multiple fields," He added.
The minister highlighted significant export opportunities for Jordanian products under the country’s free trade agreements, particularly with the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Arab Free Trade Area.
He also emphasised the strategic importance of the Mafraq development zone and its potential to serve as a logistics hub for reconstruction efforts.
At the national export level, Qudah noted a rise in industrial goods, which account for $12 billion of the country’s total exports.
Exports to previously challenging markets have grown, with shipments to Europe increasing to $500 million from $120 million in past years, exports to Syria reaching $400 million this year, and a marked increase in exports to the Canadian market.
The Qatari delegation included representatives from several sectors of the Qatar Investment Authority, including Nasser Attiya, Director of Strategic Partnerships for Emerging Markets, Abdullah bin Saad Rumaihi, Director of Emerging Markets, Ali bin Mani Ahbabi, Director of Asset Management at Qatar Electricity and Water Company, and Abdullah Tamimi, a senior official at Qatar Energy.
They reaffirmed its commitment to deepening economic ties with Jordan across multiple sectors, framing their visit as a continuation of the dialogue initiated during the Emir of Qatar’s recent visit and his discussions with His Majesty the King, while emphasising the shared goal of elevating economic relations between the two countries.
