AMMAN — Jordan's Consumer Price Index (inflation) reached 2.03 per cent during the first half of 2026, reflecting a slight increase compared with the 1.98 per cent recorded during the same period in 2025.
According to the monthly report issued by the Department of Statistics (DoS), the annual inflation rate for the month of June 2026 rose to 2.79 per cent, comparing with the 2.02 per cent registered in June 2025.
On a monthly basis, the inflation rate in June 2026 edged up by 0.14 per cent when compared with May, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.
During the first half of 2026, the increase was primarily driven by the rents component, which contributed 0.70 percentage points.
Transport followed with a contribution of 0.43 percentage points, while oils and fats added 0.26 percentage points, and personal effects contributed 0.14 percentage points.
For the month of June 2026 specifically, transport was the leading driver of annual inflation, contributing 1.27 percentage points.
Rents followed next with a contribution of 0.76 percentage points, while oils and fats accounted for 0.28 percentage points.
A decline in the prices of several other commodities helped limit the overall surge in June. Notably, the meat and poultry component lowered the monthly inflation rate by 0.23 percentage points.
The calculation of the inflation rate relies on a consumer basket containing 850 items. This selection comprises 325 food items and 525 non-food commodities, with data gathered from a survey sample of 3,400 commercial establishments, Petra reported.
