AMMAN — Jordan is ready to export natural gas and petroleum derivatives to Syria, according to Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company (JPCO) CEO Hassan Hiyari.
Speaking during an official visit to Damascus as part of a Jordanian economic delegation, Hiyari underscored the Kingdom’s extensive expertise in the oil sector, particularly in areas such as importation, pricing, and logistics within competitive markets, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Hiyari's remarks came during a meeting on the sidelines of a three-day visit by the Jordan Chamber of Commerce to the Syrian capital, during which the Jordanian delegation held talks with Syrian chambers of commerce and senior officials from various economic sectors.
Syrian Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Mohammad Al Bashir highlighted the country’s investment potential in the energy sector. “Syria possesses substantial natural resources, including oil, gas, and phosphate,” Al Bashir said, calling on regional and international investors to explore opportunities in the Syrian market.
Bashir also announced that several agreements with various countries are expected to be signed in the coming months in the fields of oil, renewable energy, and electricity. "Among the new projects is a plan to establish an oil refinery in the historic city of Palmyra, in addition to Syria’s two major existing refineries," he added.
The minister added that the Syrian government was reviewing proposals for alternative energy projects with a planned generation capacity of 100 megawatts.
