AMMAN — President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) Fathi Jaghbir, on Tuesday affirmed that the Shams Renewable Power Company project represents a "pioneering" national model for joint industrial work.
He confirmed that the project’s financing is fully secured and that the company, established with the backing and oversight of the Chamber, will implement a 100-megawatt (MW) solar energy project benefiting 63 industrial firms across different sub-sectors.
Jaghbir added that the initiative will enhance competitiveness, reduce production costs, boost industrial exports, expand business activity and create new job opportunities for Jordanians.
"The project is the first of its kind in the Kingdom, bringing together multiple industrial companies under a single renewable energy initiative, and demonstrates a high level of institutional and collaborative work within the industrial sector," he said.
Jaghbir added that the JCI has worked since the project’s inception to obtain all necessary approvals, including the electricity grid connection and the allocation of a 2,000-dunum state-owned plot for the project.
The JCI President stressed that the success of the Shams project will represent a strategic step, paving the way for similar initiatives in the future.
Such initiatives are expected to enhance the sustainability of the industrial sector, reduce its reliance on conventional energy sources, benefit the national economy, and strengthen the position of Jordanian industry both regionally and internationally.
Chairman of the Board of Shams Renewable Power Company, Abdullah Shawabkeh, said the announcement of full financing represents a "pivotal" milestone for the project.
He added that a contract was signed with a Jordanian industrial company to carry out the works, marking the start of the implementation phase after the required procedural and financial arrangements were completed.
Shawabkeh said the Chamber’s support and guidance throughout the project, which culminated in full financing and the company’s readiness to start work, was crucial to its success, and he added that he hopes the project will be a "model" for similar initiatives in the future.
