TAFILEH — Unemployed young men on Wednesday burned tyres to block a road leading to several public departments in Tafileh and the governorate’s headquarters, forcing Gendarmerie forces to fire tear gas to disperse them.
This is the fifth time unemployed people have taken to the streets in Tafileh demanding jobs, with some claiming to have been out of work for several years.
Protesters said yesterday that they had met Prime Minister Awn Khasawneh after their first sit-in and that he had promised to find jobs for 120 local residents before January 20, noting that nothing was done in this regard despite the fact that Tafileh is home to several companies.
