AMMAN — The Public Security Department (PSD) on Tuesday celebrated the conclusion of a twinning project with the EU to support the Jordan Traffic Institute in ensuring road safety.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the occasion, PSD Director Gen. Tawfiq Tawalbeh thanked the EU, and France, Sweden and Austria for the aid presented to implement the project, which seeks to enhance road traffic safety in the Kingdom in coordination with various public agencies and civil society organisations.

Tawalbeh said the project contributed to supporting the institute in enhancing traffic awareness and involving the community in maintaining road safety.

EU Ambassador to Jordan Joanna Wronecka said the EU started implementing the project in August 2013, in coordination with the Planning Ministry.

The ambassador noted that many other projects were implemented under the twinning programme in partnership with public and private institutions.

French Ambassador Caroline Dumas said the EU-supported project was implemented through a joint task force from France, Sweden and Austria, noting that the Jordanian entities involved in the programme showed genuine cooperation and professionalism that contributed to achieving its goals.
