AMMAN — A project launched last month seeks to improve quality education opportunities for targeted Syrian and Jordanian children in the governorates of Irbid and Zarqa, the organisers, World Vision Jordan, said in a statement.

The humanitarian organisation’s project is funded by Japan Platform and is aimed at supporting children from six to 12 years old in schools to study English, Arabic and maths.

It also entails providing a safe space for them for recreational activities, the organisation said, adding that the project continues until the end of February 2015.

World Vision, “a faith-based” organisation working to “overcome poverty in almost 100 countries worldwide”, has been active in Jordan since the Iraqi refugee crisis after the US invasion of Iraq in 2003.

It has been involved in support for Syrian refugees in the Kingdom since March 2013, the statement said.
