Prince Zeid condemns migrant drowning incident, calls for justice

NEW YORK — The deliberate drowning of 300-500 migrants in the Mediterranean Sea last week is a criminal act for which the perpetrators should be held accountable, HH Prince Zeid, the UN high commissioner for human rights, said Friday.
The boat, which departed from Egypt’s Mediterranean city of Damietta, was heading to Malta when it was sunk — reportedly by human traffickers.
UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric noted that the High Commission for Human Rights called on Egypt and other North African countries to exert all efforts to bring human traffickers to justice.
