Strong alliance gets stronger

Apr 12,2017 - Last updated at Apr 12,2017

Jordan and the United States have a very long history of strong ties.

The alliance is built on mutual respect and, more importantly, on common principles and values.

Jordan has always been a great ally to the US. The bilateral ties always served the best interests of the two nations and supported common belief in honourable human values.

The partnership is solid and strategic; it works in harmony with the international community to advance the efforts towards a better world.

Jordan is a key and sincere ally whose vision and values have always proved right.

Jordan’s foreign policy is known as one of the most moderate and consistent policies that the West would wish for. The country has also been a very strong partner in the world’s fight against terrorism.

Jordan’s military and intelligence efforts helped minimise the threats posed by khawarij to the global security.

The Kingdom is also an advocate for religious tolerance, for true, peaceful and moderate Islamic teachings. This enabled it to reach the rare status it enjoys in Washington, as President Donald Trump explicitly said in his news conference with King Abdullah during the King’s visit to the US.

Trump said that Jordan has tremendous support in the US, and that the US is proud to have such an ally on its side.

This is a strong indicator of what David Schenker, director of the Programme on Arab Politics at The Washington Institute, labelled as “rare status of bipartisan support”.

Ever since the civil war started in Syria, Jordan has accepted close to 1.5 million Syrians in the country so far, which put great pressure on the country’s resources and infrastructure.

The Jordanian economy has suffered substantial downturns since the crises in Iraq and Syria started, mainly because of the additional spending because of the enormous number of refugees it has accepted, but also because the country’s trade with two key countries declined significantly.

Jordan’s role in the Middle East is crucial to the stability of the region, and the US appreciates the enormous efforts exerted by King Abdullah in all the issues at stake, including Iraq and Syria.

The US and the international community know that for Jordan to continue its very constructive role, it needs to be supported. The country faces major economic challenges that require additional financial support.

Moreover, the fight against Daesh is a priority for Jordan and its international allies, and thus it is important to enable the country to address its internal economic challenges so the fighting efforts against Daesh can be intensified.

The US has always been one of our greatest allies to Jordan. Its support to the Kingdom is highly appreciated by the Jordanian government and by the public.

The strong ties between the two countries produced positive outcomes that are very much needed in one of the most volatile regions in the world, and can be viewed as most constructive, successful and productive.

Common goals, principles and values have always been key to enabling the success of the ties between the two countries, and the continued cooperation will result in even more positive outcomes in all the matters the two countries are working on jointly.

Jordanians appreciate and are grateful for the continued US support, and look forward to greater support in the days to come so that the two countries’ agendas and mutual goals can be effectively and successfully achieved.

Jordan’s alliance with the US will only get stronger because the two nations have much in common and believe in and are committed to all human values.

As Jordan and the US move forward in their efforts to counter the rising threats to regional and global security, it is hoped that the US and the rest of the global powers will make addressing Russia’s, Assad’s, Iranian militias’ and Daesh’s and all other terrorist groups’ criminal acts a top priority, work harder to stop war crimes committed by all these entities and individuals, and more importantly, bring all criminals before justice so they can be held accountable and pay for their deeds.
