Testament to our country’s strengths

May 19,2015 - Last updated at May 19,2015

The fact that Jordan was chosen to host the World Economic Forum, which starts on May 21, for the ninth time is testament to the Kingdom’s ability to withstand regional turmoil and the fires raging in many parts of the Middle East, and push on with its economic and political development.

As His Majesty King Abdullah told CNBC recently, regional crises, of whatever type, serve as a stimulus for growth in Jordan, and cannot and will not make the country deviate from its envisaged path that pursues economic and political reforms needed to sustain the inner strength of the Kingdom.

Hundreds of statesmen, business leaders and entrepreneurs are expected to converge on the Dead Sea shores in a few days’ time to take part in a significant meeting that shows Jordan to the world as an oasis of peace and stability even as wars and unrest are wreaking havoc on many countries of the region.

The opportunities for investment in Jordan are practically limitless, and cover a wide range of economic and industrial sectors, including energy, transport, infrastructure construction, tourism, water and agriculture.

The positive business climate in Jordan is unparalleled in the region.

By pitching in to the continuous national efforts to upgrade the economy and complete the political reform plans, international players will send a clear message to the world that the Kingdom can be a model that the rest of the countries of the area could emulate.

Investing in Jordan would reap more than the obvious economic benefits; it would be tantamount to investing in a country that is a bastion of peace, stability and moderation, a country that can play a significant role in securing the stability of the entire region.

Jordan does and can show, especially to the countries of the Middle East, that the way to progress, in all its dimensions, is Jordan’s way and that crises can be avoided and countries can work on building a brighter future for their peoples.

Jordan’s experiment in democracy building and economic development deserves support, and what better way to provide that than investing in its future?
