His Majesty King Abdullah made another important working visit in the Far East, after China, to South Korea, for talks with the political leadership, but also with some of the country’s business leaders.

The talks with South Korean President Park Geun-hye covered an array of bilateral issues and culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of electric and renewable energy.

Another agreement was signed by the two countries, whereby diplomatic passport holders are exempted from visa requirements.

The discussions between the two leaders covered regional issues as well, including the Syrian crisis and global efforts to combat terrorism and radical ideologies.

The King met separately and held talks with high-level officials from Samsung Electronics and Daewoo, two South Korean industrial giants, tackling ways to increase Korean investments in Jordan, a country that enjoys a good reputation worldwide and whose stable political environment should work as a stepping stone for any investor that wishes to later expand in the region.

The Samsung official welcomed the invitation to do more business in Jordan and help the country strengthen its electronic base, and expressed interest in the Red Sea-Dead Sea Water Conveyance Project.

With the Daewoo representative, the King discussed the possibility of building partnerships with public and private Jordanian industrial entities.

During the talks in Seoul, the King praised the South Korean “success story”, its scientific and industrial innovations that are a role model for other countries to emulate, also pointing out the fact that the Kingdom can provide unique investment opportunities for Korean businessmen and investors, particularly in the IT, banking, mining and pharmaceutical fields.

Stronger relations with Seoul are beneficial to both countries; by extension, they can promote stability and peace in the Middle East.
