Defying same minds

Jun 27,2015 - Last updated at Jun 27,2015

Three major terrorist attacks bearing the hallmark of the terrorist group Daesh occurred over the past few days, leaving scores dead and the world in dismay.

The attack on a hotel in the popular Tunisian resort area of Sousa took 38 lives, most foreign tourists.

A few hours earlier a Shiite mosque in Kuwait was attacked by a suicide bomber belonging to the Salafist group; 27 people were killed.

Some hours later, a French gas factory in the vicinity of Lyon was attacked, supposedly by a jihadist. Firefighters overpowered the attacker and discovered the decapitated body of his boss near the car.

The gruesome sight of the head pinned to a nearby fence, surrounded by two Islamic flags, showed just another gratuitous gesture of a degenerate that kills in the name of religion.

The attacks defy the mind of any sane person. How immoral and bestial can someone who calls himself a human being become?

Europe has been on high alert for so-called lone wolf attacks by Daesh supporters; the grouping has urged its followers to strike wherever they can.

His Majesty King Abdullah told world leaders, including British officials, statesmen and academics he met recently in London, that the fight against terrorism has become most urgent and pressing, and that the phenomenon has become a worldwide evil that requires a multi-dimensional approach that goes beyond security measures.

The latest horrific attacks should spur the international community to hold a high-level conference on terrorism to discuss and agree on effective ways to combat the phenomenon, if not prevent it altogether.

International cooperation — through sharing intelligence information and introducing measures and mechanisms to defeat this growing menace — is paramount.

The civilised world cannot allow the threat of terrorism to get bigger and out of control. It definitely should not allow itself to be cowed by mad men who claim the mantle of holiness to perform perverted acts of inhumanity.

Pooling together all possible resources to combat these maniacs is imperative.
