AMMAN — Sisterhood is Global Institute (SIGI) on Thursday said that a year ago, His Majesty King Abdullah greeted all Jordanian women on the occasion of the International Women's Day and expressed his aspiration to implement the flexible working hours to empower them economically.
A year later, the related by-law is still on hold until the Labour Ministry announces that the regulations will go into effect, according to a SIGI statement.
The 2017 gender gap index, issued by the World Economic Forum, ranked Jordan 139th among 144 countries, due to the weak economic participation of women, especially that unemployment among women stands at 30 per cent, the highest in 24 years.
