Man receives 12-year prison term for plotting to kill security officer

AMMAN — The State Security Court on Wednesday sentenced a defendant to 12 years of hard labour for planning to kill a security officer in Madaba, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The defendant was convicted of promoting the ideology of the Daesh terror group using social media networks in addition to contacting one of its leaders to join the organisation in Syria.
The defendant plotted to carry out a terrorist attack in Jordan before departing to Syria in favour of joining the organisation. He had planned to assassinate a security officer in Madaba on the morning of Eid Al Adha, but was arrested by security forces.
