IWPG Gwangju Jeonnam branch holds 2022 Peace Project briefing session

AMMAN — The Gwangju Jeonnam branch of the International Women's Peace Group (IWPG) held a virtual briefing session on the 2022 Peace Project Annual Plan on January 29.

More than 100 people from 15 countries attended the session, according to an IWPG statement.

The session reviewed 2021 activities and briefed the members from participating countries with a Gwangju Jeonnam 2022 annual activity plan.

At the briefing session, members directly briefed their annual action plans, which focused on the possibilities and effects for reaching peace.

In accordance with the 2022 goal of “Women’s cooperation for the realisation of sustainable peace”, the 2022 Peace Projects of IWPG Gwangju Jeonnam Branch was introduced to support the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) as the UN's agenda, to promote women's peace education, spread a culture of peace, and promote exchanges and cooperation with global women's civic groups.

Yayesh Tesfahuney Kiflay, head of the child department of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Social Affairs and IWPG Ethiopia branch manager, said: "I will help organisations and governments work in peace with the IWPG for women's human rights and peace."

 

IWPG’s Gwangju Jeonnam branch includes: Kaltham Abdulla Yusuf Zainal, (IWPG Ambassador in Bahrain), Philbert Yoseph Kato, (CEO of Community's Expertise for Development Contributions in Tanzania), Maha Alsakban, (CEO of Women’s Rights Centre, IWPG Ambassador in Iraq), Achamelysh Asrat (Executive Director of Saved to Save in Ethiopia), Khalid Obeid Azeez, (Director of For You Institute in Iraq), Shefaa Sawan (IWPG Member in Syria), and Richard Lazarus Ngonyani (Executive Director of Gigimanjani Comfort Basic Needs For Disabled, Elderly and Orphans in Tanzania). They were also presented with a certificate of appreciation.

In addition, the “Exchange and Cooperation Organisation Award” was awarded to the “Community's Expertise for Development Contributions” of Tanzania, “Sandigan Kuwait” of Kuwait and the “Youth Support Volunteer Group” of Egypt.

Seo-yeon Lee, the branch manager, expressed gratitude to volunteers for preparing and presenting various peace activities in each country.

“Our hope and wishes for peace will become a spark to start a positive impact not only on your country, but also to the world,” Lee said.

The IWPG is an international NGO with special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNECOSOC) with a vision to pass on the world of peace as a legacy to future generations, according to the statement.
