AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday condemned the Manchester suicide bombing that took place on Monday and killed 22 people, a Royal Court statement said Tuesday.

In a cable sent to UK Prime Minister Theresa May, the King expressed his denunciation of the "cowardly criminal act", stressing Jordan's support and solidarity with the UK and its commitment in supporting international efforts to combat terrorism.

The King extended his condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

In a tweet on his Twitter account, His Majesty wrote: “We must all stand united to destroy the [Khawarij] outlaws of Islam, who committed the evil acts of terror in Manchester and threaten our values”.

The government condemned the attack in northern England. Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani said the crime was committed by “evil people with a grudge against humanity”, noting that they seek to spread instability and instil fear in innocent people, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Momani, who is also the government’s spokesperson, stressed Jordan’s stance in facing terrorism and extremism and expressed the government’s condolences to the UK government and the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

The Foreign Ministry said that its operation centre is following up on the explosion with the Jordanian Embassy in London, which is contacting British authorities to check on the conditions of Jordanians residing and visiting Manchester.

The ministry called for contacting its operation centre on 5735166 or the Jordanian Embassy in London on 00442079373685 and 00447985555583 and the consulate on 00447493022272.

British police said they arrested a 23-year- old man in connection with the suicide bomb attack in Manchester which killed 22 people and injured dozens at a concert by US singer Ariana Grande, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

“With regards to last night’s incident at the Manchester Arena, we can confirm we have arrested a 23-year-old man in South Manchester,” Greater Manchester Police said on Twitter on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
