Water Minister announces upcoming sewage projects

AMMAN — Water Minister Raed Abul Saud on Wednesday announced a set of sewage projects to serve areas southwest of Amman in Wadi Seer, Marj Al Hamam and Naour, in addition to projects in southeast Amman, at a total value of over 45 million euros. 

During an event announcing the projects attended by senior officials in the water sector, Abul Saud said that the projects are part of the ministry's plan to improve water and sewage services around the Kingdom, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times.

These "vital projects" for underserviced areas will be completed by 2025, the minister said, noting that they will also generate more processed sewage water for agricultural purposes. 

The minister reiterated His Majesty King Abdullah's directives to expedite the implementation of projects that improve basic services for citizens.

He added that the projects will provide job opportunities for youth in these areas.

The sewage projects in southwest Amman alone are valued at 25 million euros, funded by the German Development Bank (KfW), while the southeast Amman projects are valued at 20 million euros, he said. 

The KfW-funded project includes three implementation packages to install main networks and sub-networks serving new areas spanning 200 kilometres, the minister said. 

The second package will cover all parts of Marj Al Hamam, while the third will include underserviced parts of the Naour area, the minister said. 

The minister said efforts are ongoing to secure the necessary funding for the southeast Amman projects in cooperation with the KfW, with the goal of beginning the projects by 2022 in Mquablain, Bnayat, Umm Qaseer, Kherbet Al Souq, Jawa and Yadoudeh, the statement concluded.
