AMMAN — The Central Traffic Department (CTD) has diverted traffic from Downtown Amman as cracks were detected on the main road after Raghadan Complex traffic light towards Al Hashimi Street due to drilling at a drainage construction site, according to a CTD statement.
Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Spokesperson Nasser Rahamneh told The Jordan Times over the phone on Wednesday that GAM is currently increasing the numbers of box culvert designs in downtown roads to ascertain the infrastructure’s preparedness for winter and to increase its efficiency.
“While drilling at the construction site, cracks were observed at dawn today [Wednesday] which required immediate safety measures, in cooperation with the CTD,” Rahamneh said.
“The road diversion and closure are just precautionary measures to ensure the safety of everyone,” Amjad Ayoub, director of the construction department at GAM told The Jordan Times. The CTD called on drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic instructions.
