AMMAN — Police on Thursday announced the arrest of three men who reportedly posed as Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) workers to “solicit money” in Amman.

The three men were arrested after police revived a complaint that the three men were “begging for money from people in Rashid neighbourhood”, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

“A special police force was dispatched to the area and upon questioning the three men who were wearing GAM uniformed investigators concluded that they were fraud,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

Police found an amount of cash with the three suspects, Sartawi added.

The police official did not disclose the amount of cash found on the suspects but said most probably “it was from their street begging while posing as GAM street cleaners”.

In their initial confessions to police, according to a Public Security Department (PSD) statement, the suspect stated that they wore the GAM uniforms and posed “as street cleaners for the purpose of begging for money”, according to the PSD statement.

The three suspects were referred to the concerned judicial authority for further questioning and indictment, according to Sartawi.
