Swiss, Mexican stabbing victims on recovery path

AMMAN —The Swiss citizen who was injured in a knife attack in Jerash on Wednesday is recovering and will be able to return to Switzerland in the next few days, Swiss Ambassador to Jordan Lukas Gasser said on Thursday. 

The Swiss foreign ministry followed up on the condition of the Swiss national, who received the necessary medical care, Gasser said, as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra. 

The diplomat expressed his country’s condemnation of the attack and conveyed its wishes to the injured for a speedy recovery. 

Also on Thursday, Mexican Ambassador to Jordan Roberto Rodriguez visited the injured, who include three Mexican nationals, at the King Hussein Medical Centre, and praised the level of medical care and service presented to them. 

Rodriguez stressed that the incident would not negatively affect the “distinguished relations” between the two countries, adding that the condition of the three Mexicans is stable, according to Petra. 

Eight people, including four tourists and four Jordanians, were injured on Wednesday after being stabbed by a man in Jerash. 

Soon after the incident, the suspect was taken into police custody and was initially questioned to learn more about his motives for the attack.
