AMMAN — Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and her spouse Prince Daniel on Tuesday, visited various natural and historical sites in Jordan as well as the UNRWA-run Baqaa primary mixed school in Baqaa camp.

Princess Victoria accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, met with a group of students at Baqaa school who performed traditional Dabka dancing and educational games, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Safadi said that the failure to provide adequate support to UNRWA means depriving more than 500,000 Palestinian children of their right to education and millions of refugees of their right to health services and decent living, stressing that preserving UNRWA and its role is a legal, political and moral responsibility for more than 5 million Palestinian refugees.
He added that there was ongoing Jordanian-Swedish cooperation to financially and politically support UNRWA, in order to ensure the continuation of its role in accordance with its UN mandate, praising the support of Sweden in this regard.

Princess Victoria also visited the Baptism Site in Southern Shouneh on Tuesday.  Rustom Mkhjian, acting director of the Baptism Site Commission, briefed the princess and the accompanying delegation about the site and highlighted its historic and religious significance.

Mkhjian noted that some churches were built during Islamic eras, which highlighted the harmony and co-existence among the various religions in the region, adding that the Amman Message is a real-life translation of such inter-faith harmony.

He presented the harmony rosary and sacred water to Princess Victoria who signed her name in the register of senior visitors.
