Solar eclipse expected next Tuesday

AMMAN — Next Tuesday, the world is expected to witness a partial solar eclipse, Jordanian Astronomical Society President Ammar Sakaji said on Monday night. Sakaji said that the partial eclipse in Amman will start at 12:59pm, which marks the first moment of visible contact between the moon and the sun. The eclipse peak will be at 2:13pm, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The peak of the solar eclipse will reach 34.8 per cent before the partial eclipse will start to ease gradually until its end at 3:23pm, Sakaji noted. He warned the public against looking directly at the sun during the eclipse to avoid eye injuries or permanent blindness, urging them to use special glasses to watch it. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring Earth’s view of the sun.
