AMMAN — Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani on Tuesday highlighted the importance of the army’s neutrality and independence from the political sphere, citing it as one of the factors that have contributed to Jordan’s stability.
Speaking at a dialogue session called for by the National Building Initiative (Zamzam), Momani, who is also the minister of state for media affairs and communications, highlighted the constitutional amendments recently endorsed by the Lower House, one of which puts the authority to appoint army and intelligence chiefs in the hands of the King without the government’s recommendations.
He also underlined the importance of the proposed law on governorate councils, under which 75 per cent of these councils will be elected.
