AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor general on Saturday charged a man and his two sons with manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of their relative on Friday, official sources said.

The 30-year-old victim was struck once in the chest during a brawl between members of his family and that of the suspect at their home in Sahab, a senior judicial source said.

The feud between the two families over residential space dates back for months, the judicial source told The Jordan Times.

One day before the incident, the judicial source said, the fight between the two families was renewed after someone allegedly threw rocks and smashed the windows of the victim’s vehicle.

“The victim and members of his family headed to the suspect’s house to discuss the matter. A fight erupted and the victim received a bullet in the stomach,” the judicial source explained.

Maj. Wasfi Etoum, acting spokesperson of the Public Security Department, said seven people were rounded up immediately after the shooting.

“All seven people were referred to the Criminal Court prosecutor for further questioning, and it seems the only individuals that were implicated were the uncle and his two sons,” Etoum told The Jordan Times.

The suspect, who is the victim’s uncle, confessed before Criminal Court Prosecutor Ashraf Abdullah to shooting the victim during the fight, the senior judicial source said.
“The suspect’s two sons were also charged by Abdullah with complicity,” the judicial source maintained.

The prosecutor ordered the suspects detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for further questioning, the senior judicial said.
