Report issued on performance of Parliament during pandemic

AMMAN — Al Hayat Centre for Civil Society Development (Rased) on Tuesday issued a report monitoring the performance of Parliament during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The results of the report showed that the Lower House submitted, during the period from March through June, 48 parliamentary questions made by 14 parliamentarians, while response rate reached 35 per cent. The questions focused on administrative issues at 63 per cent, followed by the financial and foreign policies at 5 per cent.

The Ministry of Health received 12 questions, followed by the Finance Ministry, which received five, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. On the performance of the permanent committees, the report shows that the House committees held 17 meetings during the pandemic, with the Economic and Investment Committee and the Palestine Committee holding three meetings each, while the education, youth, foreign affairs, labour, development, women and family affairs committees held two meetings each.

Five permanent committees did not hold any meeting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rased also revealed that 76 statements were issued by the Lower House during the same period.
