AMMAN —  Her Majesty Queen Rania and US First Lady Melania Trump visited the Excel Academy Public Charter School in Washington, DC, on Wednesday.

The Queen and the First Lady were welcomed by the United States Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, the CEO of the Excel Academy Public School Deborah Lockhart, and the principal of the school, Dana Bogle, according to a statement from Her Majesty’s office on Thursday.

They then joined a “listen-in” session, which consisted of a moderated conversation at the library, facilitated by Lockhart, and attended by students, parents and school faculty.

The Queen and the First Lady also dropped-in on a seventh-grade art class hosting an interactive art session, as well as a fifth-grade general science class.

The Excel Academy Public Charter School is Washington, DC’s first all-girls public charter school. It currently serves over 670 girls from pre-school through eighth grade. The school offers a range of special programmes and creative arts and physical education classes for all grade levels.

Earlier in the day, President Trump and the First Lady greeted His Majesty King Abdullah and Queen Rania at the White House. Following a brief meeting at the Oval Office, the First Lady hosted a lunch in honour of the Queen.
