PSUT registers patent with US Patent and Trademark Office

AMMAN — A new patent has been registered in the name of Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT) with the US Patent and Trademark Office. 

Yazan Alqudah and Belal Sababha of the King Abdullah II School of Engineering patented an innovation that serves both the auto industry and the development of smart cities by means of a communication system between cars and the street which allows the exchange of information to guide the driver and control the car in accordance with traffic conditions, according to a statement from the princess’ office.

HRH Princess Sumaya, Chair of PSUT’s Board of Trustees, congratulated the inventors for their fruitful efforts and praised the university’s role in doing everything within its power to make science serve daily life and bridge the gap between theoretical sciences and their practical applications.  

PSUT’s President Mashhoor Al Refai said that the achievement is the result of the inventors’ hard work, and that the university will spare no effort in advancing scientific progress and its applications, the statement said. 

He stressed that science and its applications should be used to serve people in their daily affairs, explaining the importance of the practical application of this invention in the automotive industry, as it facilitates the driving of cars and the ability to handle them appropriately when encountering street obstacles, read the statement.

Director of the Intellectual Property Commercialisation Office Mohammed Aljafari said that the office was established to assist universities, companies and investors in managing and protecting their intellectual property, providing the necessary scientific and legal expertise within a range of fixed prices. 

He added that the specialists in the office cooperated with the team of inventors to study their innovations and confirm their ability to protect them prior to formulation and filing. The office also served to follow up on the requirements and inquiries of the US Patent and Trademark Office, leading to their approval and the granting of the patent.
