Princess Dina calls on JSMO to update technical regulations of tobacco

AMMAN — HRH Princess Dina Mired, president-elect of the Union for International Cancer Control, on Tuesday visited the Jordan Institution for Standards and Metrology and called for efforts to combat smoking and its dangers, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

She met with World Health Organisation (WHO) Representative in Jordan Maria Cristina Profili and the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organisation (JSMO) Director Rula Madanat. Stressing on Jordan’s high smoking rates, she noted that 70.2 per cent of adult men smoke, placing the Kingdom in the second place worldwide.

The princess called on the JSMO to boost its role in monitoring tobacco products and updating the Jordanian technical regulations. She highlighted the importance of controlling the manufacturing, production, selling and distribution of tobacco products and reaffirmed on the organisation’s role in the effort.
