AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma, president of the Goodwill Campaign’s higher committee, on Saturday checked on the services provided by the zakat and charity committee of the Prince Hassan neighbourhood in Jabal Al Naser, east of Amman, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

At the committee's headquarters, Princess Basma was briefed by the head of the committee, Abul Fattah Shabaan, on the activities and initiatives implemented to help 111 orphaned families and 256 underprivileged families in the area.

During the meeting, attended by Awqaf Minister Wael Arabiyat, Zakat Fund Director General Abed Smeirat and several members of the Goodwill campaign's higher committee, Shabaan said that his committee provides JD11,700 of monthly support to target families, in addition to food parcels, Petra reported.

Shabaan also said the committee helps 26 university students with their expenses, holds lectures, as well as lessons for school students to improve their scientific skills.

Princess Basma provided support from the Goodwill campaign to the committee to help it establish a vocational centre in its headquarters with the aim of training women in the area of craft learning, gaining experience to help them immerse in the labour market and helping them to financially care for their families and themselves, Petra continued.

For his part, Arabiyat announced that the Zakat Fund will provide JD3,000 to support the new centre.
