AMMAN — Preparatory meetings for the extraordinary session of the Arab Environment Ministers Council kicked off on Wednesday at the Dead Sea, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The extraordinary session, due to take place on January 9-10 in Jordan, will feature the participation of 18 Arab countries at the ministerial level. The preparatory meeting discussed the items on the conference’s agenda and the draft resolutions to be prepared by the technical committees.
Ministry of Environment Secretary General Ahmed Qatarneh said that the session will be held to discuss the environmental issues and cases that concern the Arab world and constitute common ground for the Arab countries.
He stressed that the decisions, to be adopted by the ministerial conference, will be submitted to the Arab League for discussion at the UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi.
The conference is presided over by Lebanon in its capacity as chairman of the current session of the ministerial council and Jordan as the host country for the extraordinary session.
