Police seize 1.7m Captagon pills, arrest suspect

AMMAN — Anti-drugs police have thwarted an attempt to smuggle over 1.7 million Captagon pills to a neighbouring country and arrested one suspect, the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) said on Saturday.

The department received a tip-off several weeks ago about a group, including a Jordanian, planning to bring a large amount of illegal pills to Jordan and to smuggle them to a neighbouring country, according to a statement by the Public Security Department (PSD).

“The department received a tip-off that three Arab men planned to smuggle 1.7 million Captagon pills into the Kingdom with the help of a Jordanian and to export them to a neighbouring country,” the PSD statement said.

AND agents monitored the Jordanian contact as well as a warehouse, and “when they were sure that the illegal stash was stored in the warehouse, they stormed it, seized the illegal narcotics and arrested the Jordanian contact”, the PSD statement added.

The suspect was referred to the State Security Court prosecutor for further questioning and indictment.
