AMMAN — Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Tuesday commended the role of the Social Security Corporation (SSC) during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the importance of sustained provision of social security to all employees subscribed under the social security umbrella.

During a visit to the SSC, Razzaz said that the corporation has involved in all phases of the government’s anti-virus efforts since the onset of the pandemic.

The premier expressed hope in reaching a phase in which all Jordanians are subscribed to the SSC, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He also said that the Social Security Investment Fund (SSIF) manages people's money in a “responsible manner”.

Razzaz highlighted efforts exerted by the Labour Ministry and the SSC in preserving the rights of employees under the difficult circumstances imposed by the pandemic and in achieving a “balance” that helps overcome the repercussions of the deadly virus.

Labour Minister Nidal Bataineh, who is also the chairman of the SSC board of directors, said that the corporation played its role in “instilling the principle of social solidarity” during the pandemic through defence orders.

SSC Director General Hazem Rahahleh said that the corporation's role was enhanced during the difficult phase that the Kingdom had endured, where the SSC focused on providing social protection, supporting job security and assisting the private sector.

SSIF CEO Kholoud Saqqaf said that the fund has helped the corporation in meeting its financial needs while preserving the SSIF's assets worth JD11 billion.
