AMMAN — Minister of Planning Wissam Rabadi on Tuesday announced that the ministry has allocated an additional JD100,000 to implement the second phase of the Energy Conservation Project for Underprivileged Families in Local Communities.

The funding allocated from the budget of the Economic and Social Productivity Enhancement Programme brings the total amount provided by the ministry to support the project in 2019 to JD150,000, according to a Planning Ministry statement.

The minister said, that through the second phase of the project, underprivileged families in various governorates will be provided with about 640 solar heaters, decreasing the costs of their monthly electricity bills.

The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Energy and the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF). The Planning Ministry contributes half of the amount of the heaters, while the other half is paid for by JREEEF, the statement said.

Rabadi said that the project is “an embodiment of unified government efforts” to improve the economic and social conditions of Jordanians.

The statement added that in 2018, the ministry granted an amount of JD150,000 to support implementation of the project's first phase.
