AMMAN — The ONE LOVE organisation is giving everyone a chance to “make this winter warmer” for orphans and widows by participating in one-hour walk to raise money for blankets through the “Walk for a Blanket” event.

According to ONE LOVE’s founder, Faten Al- Malky, JD6 will be collected from each participant in the walk, which is being held on Friday, December 7. The money will be used to distribute blankets to widows, orphans and the less fortunate residing in the underprivileged outskirts of Madaba Governorate, 30km southwest of Amman.

“We hope to get a minimum of 220 blankets if we want to cover the whole village,” said Malky.

“Some widows and unfortunate families live in desperate conditions, isolated in the middle of nowhere between mountains.”

The event is expected to draw around 70 to 100 people and raise around JD600.

ONE LOVE, which provides orphans and vulnerable children with healthcare, clothes, food, nutrition, education and entertainment activities is made up of Malky and 15 of her friends who believe that “together we can make a change”.

In partnership with the 8th District Walking  Group, a walking group which has over 8,000 members and whose mission is to promote the exercise of walking, ONE LOVE hopes to raise the required money for the village’s blankets, according to the group’s website.

Malky told The Jordan Times on Monday, “We are happy that local groups are standing behind our mission and helping us achieve our goals.”
