New healthcare standards approved

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Sunday approved standards and criteria for establishing hospitals, along with comprehensive, preliminary and secondary healthcare centres.

The standards are aimed at regulating the distribution and establishment of health centres to limit the waste of public money for guaranteeing citizens access to health and treatment, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Monday.

The criteria include the population of the area and the distance from the nearest hospital, as well as ratios of hospital, bed, doctor and nurse to patients.

Health Minister Mahmoud Sheyyab said that the ministry had set a health map for the Kingdom, which included several factors such as the locations of public and private hospitals, health centres affiliated with the ministry, and indicators of communicable diseases.
