AMMAN — The National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) and the Jerusalem District Electricity Company (JDECO) in Ramallah on Thursday signed a renewal agreement to increase the amount of electricity sold to Palestine.

Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and Jordanian Energy Minister Hala Zawati attended the signing ceremony which was inked by NEPCO Director General Amjad Rawashdeh and JDECO Director Hisham Omari, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Zawati highlighted the importance of the agreement in enhancing energy exchange cooperation between Jordan and Palestine and providing the Palestinian electricity grid with power.

Rawashdeh referred to the possibility of increasing the amount of electricity sold to Palestine once JDECO’s infrastructure is upgraded.

The agreement also included training Palestinian engineering and technical personnel in NEPCO training centres, Rawashdeh said, saying the company was ready to provide Palestinians with all necessary support in the field.

During Zawati’s visit to Palestine, the minister will meet with several officials on issues related to cooperation in the electricity and natural resources sectors.

NEPCO has been providing Jericho with electricity for the past 10 years through the agreement renewed on Thursday.
