AMMAN — The authorities on Saturday said they are questioning a man who on Saturday reportedly turned himself in to Irbid police, claiming to have killed and buried a man, senior official sources said.
"The suspect walked into the police station and claimed to have killed a man and ushered authorities to where he buried the victim," Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
Investigators were able to locate the body based on the suspect's information, Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
The suspect was ordered detained by the Criminal Court prosecutor for 15 days pending further investigations into the incident, a senior judicial source said.
The Criminal Court prosecutor also ordered that the body be sent to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, the senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.
"The prosecutor in charge of the investigations ordered that blood and tissue samples be sent to the criminal lab for further analysis and examination," according to the senior judicial source.
"The Criminal Court prosecutor will summon the family members of the victim and the suspect in the upcoming days to hear their testimonies to learn more about the homicide," the judicial source said.
