AMMAN — The Lower House on Sunday passed amendments to the Judicial Execution and Civil Court Procedure laws, and discussed others in respect to the 2018 labour law bill.
The passed amendments stipulate increasing the number of officially accredited newspapers to three, instead of two, while maintaining the exclusivity of judicial notices to only two of the country’s three major Arabic newspapers.
The two newspapers are chosen according to regulations issued by the Justice Ministry, in coordination with the Jordan Press Association and civil society institutions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
As per their validating reasons, these passed amendments aim at facilitating the delivery of justice, while supporting the competitiveness of print press.
According to Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni, these amendments serve the purpose of enhancing the dispersion and reach of judicial notices through integrated comprehensive coverage, to make sure notices and announcements are read by their intended audience.
Instead of publishing in small-circulating papers, the judicial execution authorities will, as soon as the amendments come into force, publish in two of the three widespread newspapers.
During the session, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Transport Walid Masri noted that 90 per cent of the demands made by the municipalities’ workers have already been met.
"There is no need for more sit-ins, as their salaries compared with the other public employees are the same, if not higher," the minister said.
He explained that the retroactive increase of municipality worker salaries had been initiated as of the middle of 2018.
They were given overtime allowances, in addition to the establishment of solidarity and housing funds.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Christmas, Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh, presiding over the session, congratulated the Christian community on the coming of the holiday season, while expressing his condolences for the passing of Sheikh Sultan Adwan.
The House held a minute of held to mourn the death of the former member of Parliament and leading figure of “the Jordanian athletic movement”, as Tarawneh described him in his address to the MPs.
