AMMAN — Tourism Minister Lina Annab said on Saturday that her ministry is looking into noise levels at tourist facilities, in order to protect the rights of those living around them and those investing in them, especially given increasing public nuisance complaints.
The Tourism Ministry has held a special workshop focusing on volume of noise at the SAE Institute, attended by employees working in the inspection of tourism facilities.
The agencies represented included the Tourism Ministry, the Tourism Police, hotel and restaurant associations, and representatives of tourism facilities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The workshop trained participants in the latest techniques to monitor and measure the volume levels emitted at tourism facilities, in order to minimise noise and disruption to those living nearby.
Tourism Ministry Secretary General Issa Gammoh said the workshop also aimed to adopt a specific framework to deal with noise levels, which will allow fines to be issued to violating facilities according to international standards.
“Most tourist facilities that cause [excessive] noise were licensed by the relevant authorities a long time ago,” Gammoh said, adding that at the time there were fewer residential buildings surrounding them.
