AMMAN – Minister of Labour Ali Ghezawi on Tuesday stressed the importance of increasing inspections of facilities where child labour could be expected, a statement from the Labour Ministry said.

Restaurants, bakeries, garages and street coffee shops should be frequently inspected for child labour.

At a meeting with concerned officials at the ministry, Ghezawi called on families not to send their children to work and to be aware of the dangers and the negative impact of employment for children, including work injuries, exposure to hazardous materials and harassment.

The minister stressed that the law does not differentiate between Jordanian and non-Jordanian workers, which means children from all nationalities are treated equally.
