Man confesses to stabbing Syrian to death over ‘financial feud’

AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Thursday charged a Jordanian man with murdering a Syrian in Mafraq earlier this month, according to a judicial source.

The body of the 22-year-old Syrian was found in a neighbourhood in the northeast governorate, some 80km from Amman, earlier this month.

An autopsy revealed that he received multiple stab wounds to different parts of his body.

Police arrested the 20-year-old suspect a few days after the body was discovered, the senior judicial source said.

The suspect reportedly confessed on Thursday in front of Criminal Court Prosecutor Ramzi Nawayseh to “stabbing the victim repeatedly over a financial feud”.

“Nawayseh charged the suspect with manslaughter and possessing an illegal sharp object,” the source told The Jordan Times.

In his initial confession to police, the suspect claimed that he had a heated argument with the victim over an old debt in a secluded area in Mafraq, according to the judicial source.

“The suspect stabbed the victim repeatedly with a switchblade then fled the scene,” the source added.

Nawayseh issued orders for the suspect to be detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigation, a second source told The Jordan Times.
