AMMAN — Police on Saturday said they arrested a man in Amman for allegedly murdering a building guard in Aqaba, 330km south of the capital, over the weekend.
On Friday, police found a 47-year-old man stabbed to death in a building under construction in the Fifth District in Aqaba, Public Security Department Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi.
“We managed to identify the victim as well as the perpetrator based on evidence collected at the scene,” the police official told The Jordan Times.
Sartawi added that “investigators learnt the suspect travelled to the capital, tracking him down and arresting him in south Amman”.
“We surrounded the area where the suspect was present and arrested him without any major incidents,” Sartawi added.
The police official said old feuds are believed to be the motive of the murder. He would not elaborate any further.
An autopsy was performed on the victim and it indicated that he received six stab wounds to different parts of his body, a second source said.
“The autopsy also indicated that the victim has been dead for over five days,” the second source said.
The suspect was referred to the Criminal Court prosecutor for further questioning and indictment.
