AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah and Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah on Monday held a summit meeting which focused on strengthening “brotherly relations between the two countries in the political, economic and military fields”.

The talks also tackled developments in the Arab region, a Royal Court statement said.

During the meeting, held at Basman Palace in the presence of officials from the two countries, the two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the “advanced level of bilateral ties and significant strides made to improve them to serve mutual strategic goals and interests”, the statement said.

King Abdullah expressed his appreciation for Kuwait’s support of Jordan, under all circumstances.

In an expression of gratitude for Kuwait and its leader, King Abdullah gave directives to name the liquefied gas terminal in Aqaba after the Emir of Kuwait, to become the Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Port.

King Abdullah also congratulated Sheikh Sabah on Kuwait’s national day, which falls on February 25.

Addressing regional developments, the two leaders stressed the need for intensifying cooperation and coordination among the various Arab countries to deal with challenges facing them, especially the dangers of extremism and terrorism.

They stressed the importance of unifying Arab and Islamic efforts against terrorism and extremism, and the significant role of religious institutions in the Arab and Islamic worlds in spreading Islam’s values of enlightenment, tolerance and moderation.

Sheikh Sabah renewed Kuwait’s support for Jordan in confronting the dangers of terrorism and entrenching the message of peace, security and human values, which “Jordanian martyred pilot Muath Kasasbeh gave his life for”.

King Abdullah noted that the leadership and people of Kuwait have always been among the first to stand by Jordan at difficult times and show genuine solidarity.

During the talks, the two sides reviewed developments in Syria and Iraq, in particular, stressing the need to further exert and coordinate efforts that unify Arab ranks and serve Arab and Islamic causes.

Moreover, the King hosted a lunch banquet in honour of the Kuwaiti emir and the accompanying delegation, who left Jordan later in the day and were seen off by senior officials and army officers.

Upon arrival, Sheikh Sabah was received by King Abdullah at Marka Military Airport, where an official reception was held.

On Monday, the government welcomed the historic visit by the Kuwaiti emir to Jordan.

Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Mohammad Momani said Jordan highly appreciates the “historic” visit of the emir.

“Jordanian-Kuwaiti ties are a model of sound pan-Arab relations, built on cooperation, coordination and consultation in all fields,” he noted.
