King, Queen receive Swedish Crown Princess Victoria and her spouse Prince Daniel

AMMAN — Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania on Wednesday received Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria and her spouse Prince Daniel at Al Husseiniya Palace. 

During the meeting, which was attended by HRH Prince Ali, His Majesty voiced Jordan's keenness on enhancing its distinguished relations with Sweden in all fields, according to a Royal Court statement.

A number of issues and international efforts to find political solutions to regional crises were also discussed at the meeting, where the King underlined the roles of the EU and Sweden in these regards, the statement said.    

Concerning the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the King stressed the need for a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution that can lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to the statement.  

The King voiced appreciation for Sweden's efforts to push the Middle East peace process forward and its support to UNRWA in light of the relief agency's financial challenges, the statement said.

The meeting also addressed Jordan's burdens resulting from hosting a large number of Syrian refugees, according to the statement. 

Princess Victoria praised Jordan’s tourist attractions and the hospitality of the Jordanian people, pointing out that these advantages encourage more Swedish people to visit Jordan. 

The meeting was attended by the adviser to His Majesty and director of the Office of the Majesty, Sweden’s ambassador in Amman and the accompanying delegation.

Earlier in the day, Princess Victoria visited Al Hussein Society-Jordan Centre for Training and Inclusion and Al Karma Centre of the Jordan River Foundation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Princess Majedah Raad, the president of the society, received Princess Victoria and expressed her pride in Princess Victoria’s visit to the society, remembering her Majesty Queen Silvia of Sweden, the Crown Princess’ mother, visit to the society in 1989.

Annie Abu Hanna, the society’s executive director briefed Princess Victoria about the early intervention and rehabilitation programmes offered to the disabled children.  

At Al Karma Centre, Princess Victoria reviewed the production line for the handmade products and home accessories.

Princess Victoria was also briefed by the Director General of the Jordan River Foundation Anaam Braishi about the handcrafts programme, which aims to create job opportunities for women in local communities.

Sweden’s Ambassador to Jordan Erik Ullenhag, also held a reception ceremony, attended by HRH Prince Raad and Princess Majedah Raad, in honour of Sweden’s crown princess and her spouse Prince Daniel. 

 The crown princess and her spouse departed from the Kingdom on Wednesday.
